Without A Trace 6.11 “4G” Recap
Episode Name: “4G”
Episode Number: 6.11
Air Date: January 10, 2008

4G features a private investigator, Scott Lucas, (portrayed by actor Danny Nucci) who goes missing while doing undercover surveillance on a city councilman. Intertwined in this episode is the story of a young boy, Adam, who lives in a foster home.
Upon Lucas’ disappearance, the team is called in due to someone at the bureau needing a favor. There are a lot of twists to this episode. For one thing, it’s unclear what type of person Lucas is because of the surveillance he’s doing on a number of women living in his apartment building. Also, because Lucas has a medical condition, it adds to the mystery of his persona.
There are at least 9 suspects identified in the beginning, from a lawyer to his Lucas’ ex, and it gets bigger as the show progresses. There’s a nice parade of sleazy characters throughout. From a city councilman, to the insurance scam team, to the drug user that lives upstairs, the characters add flavor.
Agent Johnson does great as usual while talking with the victim’s families. Her interview of Adam, and his uncooperative foster-mother are quite good. She knows when to take the hard line.
Agent Malone gets a visit from Terry Long, the mother of a previous crime victim, Jennifer Long (from a previous episode). It was nice to have this folded into the plot because this was a case of horrible things happening to a young girl, and reveals how Agent Malone is the only one who seems to be able to help her.
In the end, Lucas, driven by his own troubled childhood, and a desire to help a young boy, rights some of the wrongs of the world. This was not my favorite episode due to the sheer number of suspects in the beginning, but there was a bittersweet ending. It was very nice to see Danny Nucci, of whom I still fondly remember as the character Fabrizio in the blockbuster movie, Titanic.
