Crime Drama’s "Last Of The Ninth" Gets Director

Anytime a new crime drama comes along on HBO, it raises a few eyebrows, as HBO is known for airing high-quality original programming. David Milch (NYPD Blue, Deadwood) has created a new crime drama series called Last of The Ninth, which features the story of rampant NYPD corruption in the 1970s.

Was the NYPD corrupt then? It’s been said there’s truth to every story, and the series pilot has been co-written by Bill Clark, a former New York Homicide Detective. A healthy look back at how Vietnam vets saw things in the 1970s with a bit of crime drama to match is certainly worthy of a look-see. Here are more details on the project, along with some news.

Last Of The Ninth’s Plot
The latest news on this project is that Carl Franklin has been tapped to direct the pilot. Specifically, the plot involves the story of a younger detective who is just back from the Vietnam War, and his relationship with his mentor, an older detective. Carl Franklin is a talented actor and an award winning director. He recently directed the pilot for FX’s series, The Riches.

Training Day, revisited?
Let’s hope so. As an aside, if their relationship even resembles the one between Alonzo Harris (Denzel Washington) and Jake Hoyt (Ethan Hawk) in Training Day, I’m sold already. Both actors were phenomenal in this movie. This movie and the new series may perhaps tell the same tale, of police officers committing minor crimes to prevent more serious ones, while making moral compromises along the way. These are frightening concepts indeed!
