Criminal Minds: "Damaged" Review

by Alexandra on April 3rd, 2008

Criminal Minds is back. An amazing episode, Damaged, aired Wednesday night. There were essentially four different plots going on in the beginning.

There was also a lightness to this episode. Even Thomas Gibson’s brooding Hotchner showed something in his demeanor, something that I’d never seen before.

Dr. Reid, on the other hand, earned a very big bravo from me too. Even he knows that violence never really solves anything. However, I would have loved to see Agent Hotchner lay a serious beating on a serial killer before he goes to the chair.

Has Rossi (Joe Mantegna) finally found his bond with the other BAU team members? When he revealed the nightmare he has every night to Agents Morgan and Prentiss, I felt he was finally opening up, and letting years of frustration off his back. At the same time, he still had the rough exterior that is so becoming. I thought the poor Indianapolis detective was going to cry under the pressure of Rossi’s questions about the old case.

I found the relationship between Kevin Lynch (Nicholas Brendon) and Penelope Garcia to be quite refreshing, and in some ways, downright comical due to Kevin’s personality and Penelope’s demeanor.

Agent Prentiss looked amazing last night, and J.J. really made me laugh with her queries into Garcia’s personal life.

This was an entertaining and multi-faceted episode, yet it kept the balance between fun and the seriousness that the fans have always loved. Its certainly nice to have our BAU family back in primetime this way.

It’s been a big TV week. I think that between the cancellations and repeats over the last few months, some have just given up on TV, but there are some gems out there that viewers have made as their priorities, and I’m glad of that!

It was great to see a new episode!

I also really wanted to see Hotchner take out all his frustrations on the serial killer, but yay Reid for saving the day!
