Public Enemies - The Plot, The Actors
The Feds go after the notorious American gangsters John Dillinger, Baby Face Nelson and Pretty Boy Floyd during a booming crime wave in the 1930s. Add to this the portrayal of the birth of the FBI, all directed by Michael Mann (Collateral, Miami Vice, The Last of The Mohicans).
Other actors on board are Channing Tatum (Pretty Boy Floyd) Christian Bale (Melvin Purvis), and Billy Crudup (J. Edgar Hoover). The film is of course in production, with a 2009 projected release date.
Johnny Depp’s Role
Johnny Depp portrays John Dillinger, the real life American bank robber. The real Dillinger was known equally as a criminal and a sort of Robin Hood. He had a reputation for using graceful movements during bank heists, which garnered him the name “Jackrabbit”.
It will be very interesting to see what Depp does with this amazing character, since he is one of the most versatile actors in Hollywood. He’s also known for portraying eccentric outcasts who are misunderstood by society in general.
