The Shield: "Coefficient Of Drag" Review
The problem with the Armenian money train never seems to end.
Vic and Shane (Walton Goggins) catch up in the form of Vic (Michael Chiklis) kicking Shane all to hell as Shane had Vic’s family “kidnapped” supposedly to protect them from someone much worse. Some have reported an average premiere as far as viewership, but I think those of us who caught this dark horse were rather lucky on Tuesday night.
This episode had all the good stuff, Byz Lats, nasty Armenian characters, and plenty of eye-rolling from Captain Wyms (CCH Pounder), as she takes in the lies she gets from “Barn” member Shane Vendrell. Vic starts the season without his badge.
The episode begins with a lot of action. Vic gets his family out of danger, and there’s a scene in which he tries to reassure them. He tells them “…there’s nothing to worry about”. Moments later, he and one of his team members, Gardocki, (David Rees Snell) tackle some guy who is watching Vic’s house from the bushes. They take the guy down in seconds, just in time for Vic to wave to his teenage daughter and say “good-bye, honey”…just like a perfect dad.
Dutch (Jay Karnes) and Danny (Catherine Dent) must have gotten close last season, as Dutch stuck his foot in his mouth thinking that Danny was uncomfortable.
Finally, no episode is ever complete without Vic and Aceveda (Benito Martinez) meeting at the storage shed that’s full of blackmail files, or Vendrell busting in to someone’s apartment while they are having sex. As I said, The Shield is not for the faint of heart.
Catch The Shield for all new episodes on Tuesdays at 10:00 PM on FX.
