Numb3rs: Jack of All Trades Review

In Jack of All Trades, Don and the team help a veteran agent (Henry Winkler) find an elusive con man (Chuck Hittinger) who has eluded him for years.
Agent McGowan (Keith Carradine) made his decision on whether to grant Charlie’s (David Krumholtz) security clearance, and on whether to file disciplinary action charges against Don.
The episode started out with a tense scene that showed the frustration of the veteran agent, and his zeal to capture the con man. Seeing the guy escape right under their noses, (and the method) was amazing.
Liz Warner was back on the case, and she seemed to lend Don some emotional support as he waited on the fallback from McGowan’s decisions.
What was amazing about this episode was the contrast between what I would call the old guard and the new guard of the FBI. Here we have Don Eppes having disciplinary action being recommended against him by a veteran agent because in his eyes, Don closes cases by doing “whatever it takes”. At the same time, veteran Agent Bloom (Winkler) literally does that to catch the “con man”.
There were some nice surprises in this episode which included SNL funny girl, Nora Dunn, as a Hollywood manager. It was cute when she asked Colby about his striking features.
I also loved seeing Larry Fleinhardt in what is normally Charlie’s place, in front of the “powerpoint” explaining a theory to the team. Larry and Amita did a great job of filling in for Charlie.
David and Colby both worked together well as usual, and I was glad to see a resolve on Alan’s park dilemma.
