"Cop House" – Crime Fighting’s Funny Side

Scott Caan to star in new Fox comedy "cop" pilot, "Cop House" Just the idea of a halfway house for troubled cops sounds a little scary. It could also present a few hilarious scenarios. At least, this is what Fox’s Brett Ratner (Prison Break, Women’s Murder Club) is betting on, as he is directing a new Fox comedy pilot called Cop House.

Scott Caan (Oceans 11, 12, and 13, Gone In Sixty Seconds) is tapped to play the lead, a champion marksman who suffers a nervous breakdown after his wife leaves him for his sister.

You can see a very funny video clip which features Caan (and Casey Affleck) in his role in Ocean’s 13 at the end of this post. Curtis I’Cook (The Interpreter, Law & Order) also stars, and portrays an intense cop who often breaks into random violent outburst.

Hitfix reports Ajai Naidu (Office Space) and Rachel Harris (Notes From The Underbelly) will also round out the cast. Harris’ role is that of the only female cop in the house, and is there because she posed nude for Hustler magazine. Naidu’s character has a drinking problem.

I’m not sure how successful this series will be. I typically find some funny cop shows, such as Reno911!, (which is really a parody of reality cop shows) somewhat disturbing. Is it ok to make fun of the police? The people who view funny cop videos on YouTube don’t seem to mind.

Since other series successfully make fun of hospital employees (Scrubs), and lawyers (Boston Legal), here’s hoping that Cop House brings some levity with the funny, and not just something that resembles those Rush Hour movies.

There’s been a lot of buzz about “Cop House”! I heard it is a very funny show. There hasn’t been any funny cop shows since “Barney Miller”! Personally I don’t like “Reno 911″! It’s kind of raunchy! I hope FOX picks it up. They need a good comedy!
