Crime Drama Dominates Top TV Ratings For March 30

Criminal Minds' A.J. Cook and Shemar Moore The list of Top 20 shows in Prime Time Nielsen ratings for the week of March 30 is peppered with crime drama series. If you’ve ever wondered what the rest of us are watching, read Nielsen’s complete list here.  Pictured above are A.J. Cook and Shemar Moore of CBS’s Criminal Minds. Although their show didn’t make the list for last week, there are many times a “Minds” rerun will “top” the new programming in my house.

You can be sure that drama, American Idol and NCAA basketball games also made the list. The next biggest category to dominate the list were reality TV shows. Here’s the list of top crime dramas:

NCIS, CBS, 17.23 million viewers

The Mentalist, CBS, 16.96 million viewers

CSI: Crime Scene Investigation, CBS, 14.63 million viewers

CSI: Miami, CBS, 13.46 million viewers.

Without a Trace, CBS, 12.53 million viewers

24, Fox, 11.26 million viewers

Knowing which TV shows people watch is extremely important, not just to advertisers, but to viewers and networks. Nielsen’s research is also used by networks to determine which shows to cancel. Although I’ve heard rumors of Without A Trace being on the bubble, I doubt any of these series are being targeted for cancellation anytime soon.
