How ironic is this? On the same weekend that the Ron Howard and Dan Brown film Angel and Demons debuts, Numb3rs’ exciting season finale, called Angels and Devils airs! In this exciting season 5 finale episode, Amita (Navi Rawat) is kidnapped, and Charlie (David Krumholtz) puts aside his feelings to help find her. It seems that in the eyes of the Eppes brothers, there’s no such thing as being too close to a case. Check out the the short video preview above and catch up on the review of the Season finale.

Numb3rs creators pulled out all the stops on this one. James Callis of Battlestar Galactica fame (Dr. Gaius Baltar) stars as a sociopath named Mason Duryea, the prime suspect in this case. Sarah Drew of CW’s Everwood fame stars as Piper, a devoted follower of Duryea. (Remember she portrayed that shy young thing named Hannah Rogers in Everwood?) Lou Diamond Philips returns as Agent Ian Edgerton.

I’ve decided that British actor James Callis is a master of voices. He passes as Southerner quite nicely (Ok maybe not a Southerner from Georgia but he does well all the same. Maybe a Missouri southerner?).

Agent Edgerton does that thing again in which he manages to appear out of nowhere, and rather quietly. Guess that’s a good skill to have if you are master sniper. I’m ready to call him ninja at this point.

Duryea is a genius cult-figure, charismatic in the all the right ways to runaways and wayward girls. Those who are held by his sway become a part of his girl gang…called The Tribe, and for them, kidnapping Amita was no coincidence.

While under duress, Amita finds a unique way to contact Charlie and the team (the only way a genius girl math nerd could…). Overall, the episode was awesome, but it felt a little understated for a season finale(?)

In the end, Nikki and Edgerton end up going out after work, and Alan does a great job of summing up the season. Don mentions some spiritual elements he experienced, and Charlie ends up asking someone a very important question. Besides the episodes of Law and Order tonight (reruns) I caught this evening, at 8:00 PM on Fox, Lie To Me airs it Season 1 finale. It features the Lightman Group investigating a terrorist attack that occurs just outside of Washington, D.C. Mekhi Phifer stars as FBI Agent Reynolds, and he contacts the group and brings them on board to find the terrorists. Cal and Zoe also get a scare as they are concerned their daughter might be in danger.

Criminal Minds’ new episode, Amplification, airs tonight at 9:00 PM. A BAU team member is in danger as a killer releases a new strain of a deadly virus into the air. Dan Lauria stars as General Lee Whitworth, MD in this episode. I wonder which BAU member will be in danger. Well, in the video above it looks pretty clear that it’s Reid (Matthew Gray Gubler). Not Reid..say it aint so!

More On Leonard Nimoy’s Role

In the latest Fringe news, a bit more has been revealed about Leonard Nimoy’s role on the series. We already know he’s to portray the mysterious former scientist William Bell in the finale. We knew Nimoy is be in more than one episode.  At the April 23 Paley Festival panel interview, J.J. Abrams revealed Anna Torv is the only person that will share a scene with him on the May 12 finale, and it was reiterated that Nimoy will be back for future episodes. Yay! Peter Bishop’s Big Secret

Word is we’ll get a resolve on Peter Bishop’s (Joshua Jackson) big secret, as there is something of a tease about there being more than one Peter over at io9. Apparently, we’ll also find out whether Nina Bell is good or bad, and what goes on with Olivia’s powers in the season finale.

Astrid’s On Either Side of The Pattern?

Finally, Jasika Nicole, (aka lab assistant Astrid on Fringe) says Astrid might have a dark side, or at least dark intentions, and that we don’t quite know what her character’s impact will be on the series. In an exclusive interview, she reveals some funny and amazing insight into her character and the show. Some of her secrets include her favorite scene (worms busting out of a guy’s chest in the animal right’s activist episode called Unleashed), and her dishing on whether the very serious Lance Reddick is a “gigglebox”.

Friday night’s episodes of Flashpoint and Numb3rs helped bring CBS to the ratings winner’s circle. Flashpoint’s new episode attracted 8.2 million viewers which left ABC’s Supernanny in the dust.

Flashpoint’s episode, called Remote Control, featured a bank worker whose wife is kidnapped, and he learns his own brother may be responsible. In this short clip above, you see the bank worker as he is apparently speaking to his wife one last time. Talk about tense..she’s also pregnant with their child.

The new episode of Numb3rs, which put agent Don Eppes (Rob Morrow) in the hospital, and the show in the top slot for the 10:00 PM hour, attracted 8.8 million viewers.

In this episode called The Fifth Man, the team is under a lot of of pressure to catch the bad guys. One highlight is that Granger (Dylan Bruno) and Sinclair (Alimi Ballard) get into an intense discussion after Sinclair stops Granger from going a little too far with a suspect in the interrogation room. I just saw the preview for next new episode of Criminal Minds that features Alex O’Loughlin (Moonlight). I had to laugh because in the official preview, it says “Alex O’Loughlin is back…”. Ha! CBS knows they should have kept Moonlight, and if I were them, I’d soak up as much O’Loughlin/Moonlight magic as possible. I bet there are a bunch of Mick St. John fans ready to pounce on this episode of CR!

Season 5 of The Closer begins in June, and the beginning episodes will feature Brenda (Kyra Sedgwick) being “unwillingly” assisted by a detective named Dick Tracy. I have to admit, I’m more excited about that intense arsonist, Billy Croelick (Jason O’Mara) being back, because he seems to rattle Brenda so!

On NCIS, Tony and Ziva’s relationship is about to evolve. May 19 is the season finale, and the “fans will decide” something that will “carry over” to the summer according to NCIS Executive Producer Shane Brennan. Sounds like this is something that fans have been waiting for. So what was all those quips about between these two all this time, sexual tension?

On 24, although fans are still mourning the death of Larry, Chloe (Mary Lynn Rajskub) is back and will be making some important decisions after hearing about Bill.

I read a few weeks ago that Fringe will be be moving all its production from New York to Vancouver in light of the end of tax breaks for the production company. No sweat…I’m sure they’ll do an excellent job of making the show still look like a fictitious Boston.

Also for those wondering about Season 2, Kirk Acevedo (Agent Harris) reveals he was just on set filming a Fringe stand-alone episode that airs for Season 2! You can read his interview here at Fringe Television. For those who said it was risky…Season 2 is coming.

Friday nights has been an amazing night for crime drama on CBS. Flashpoint and Numb3rs air back-to-back. Although we’ve had a few Numb3rs repeats here and there in the past few weeks, things are getting tense as Charlie makes a critical error in his math calculations, and it puts Don in serious harm’s way in Friday’s upcoming episode of Numb3rs, called The Fifth Man.

The team investigates related occurrences of home invasions, and Charlie is called in to use math calculations to help profile the suspects. Don is severely injured and his life is in danger due to a problem with Charlie’s miscalculation.

Michael Gaston (Fringe, Jericho) and Alan Blumenfeld (Heroes) guest star on this episode which airs on Friday, April 24, at 9:00 PM ET on CBS.

Anna Torv, John Noble and Joshua Jackson on the move to find a creature on Fringe’s “Unleashed”

For now, we’ll continue to get more on Olivia (Anna Torv) and her mysterious background.

I’m pretty excited about this “Peter Bishop” development. It’s unclear how much contact Peter had with his father Walter Bishop (John Noble) so many years ago before Dad went off to the loony bin.

An obvious tack would be that dad somehow made his own son some sort of a lab rat. I think it would be an interesting storyline to pursue (or continue based on a previous episode). What’s even more interesting is the fact there’s no telling what you can pick up just by being around Walter and his crazy lab.

Thoughts On Fringe’s Episode “Unleashed”

Anna Torv, Kirk Acevedo and an unfortunate victim in “Unleashed”

If you saw the latest episode of Fringe called Unleashed, you noticed that it’s probably dangerous to eat anything in the lab, even something as innocuous looking as an *omelette. It’s also better to continue to tell children that “monsters aren’t real” as Olivia learns, even though they do in fact exists in the world of Fringe. 

This time, a group of animal activists decide to break in and release some animals that are caged inside a warehouse. Unfortunately, they released something quite unnatural…a man-made monster! In this episode, Charlie (Kirk Acevedo) is injured by the creature, and what an injury it is…

I’m especially liking the way Olivia Dunham seemed a bit annoyed by the fact that Peter Bishop called late at night to talk to her sister, and not her. What’s the matter Olivia? Didn’t you learn from your last foray into fratting that having your partner as your boyfriend is just not that healthy? I see this as either making her see Peter in a new light, or maybe it will cause her to take a different look at her own life. I suspect Olivia has had her turn at love on Fringe though, but you never know…there’s always a cliffhanger, and next season…

This week’s episode of Criminal Minds is a special rebroadcast called 52 Pickup. Agents Prentiss (Paget Brewster) and Todd (Meta Golding) go undercover to profile a serial killer, or pick-up artist, who uses skills of persuasion to lure women into danger. This is a very creepy episode.

Some of the highlights include a witness who has the guts to call Agent Morgan an alpha-male baldy, and make a scary come-on to Agent Prentiss in the same interview. This may be the first time I’ve seen Agent Hotchner (Thomas Gibson) peeved with one of his team members this season, as Agent Todd illustrates she might say anything to get a witness to open up.

Guest stars include Riki Lindhome, Keri Lynn Pratt, and Jake Newton. The episode airs on Wednesday, April 15, at 9:00 PM ET on CBS.

One of the scarier aspects of this episode is that it’s about a guy who basically uses persuasion to lure victims. It’s been said that persuasion is the most researched skill, and in this case, it can be the most dangerous.

The story is set on the backdrop of Los Angeles, and takes a look at not just the cops, but the victims, their families, and the criminals. Southland airs on Thursdays at 10:00 PM ET on NBC.

Watching the series, I get the feel of something between The Shield and Third Watch.  I also get the same sort of movement of the plot lines that is unmistakably “ER” like. Here’s a quick run-down of what you need to know about this exciting new crime series:

Michael Cudlitz (A River Runs Through It) is John Cooper, the 20 year veteran and training officer. So far, I like his style. He gives off a no-nonsense vibe, and I love his dramatic way when dealing with Ben Sherman. As for the speech he gave to the rookie after the shooting? Although I enjoyed it…it made me laugh out loud.  Here’s a bit from another scene: “Number one, things are not always what they seem…the victim can be suspect, the suspect can be the victim. You do not take action alone…”).

Ben McKenzie portrays the young rookie, Ben Sherman, and boy does he have the “I’m a young inexperienced cop” pout down to a science. I didn’t get to see him as the lead on the other popular series, The OC but here he portrays the “innocent cop” rather well. The formula of the cop who is dismayed at having to actually shoot someone can be a bit trying, but in this case, I didn’t mind it. Officer Cooper’s somewhat hilarious speech afterwards made me forget all about it.

Regina King (Jerry McGuire) portrays Detective Lydia Adams, and she’s the sole caretaker of (and lives with) her mom. Tom Everett Scott is her partner, Detective Russell Clark, and he’s an unhappily married dad with three kids. There is also an assortment of gang detectives, and a patrol officer.

Yes, the series has the familiar elements of the typical police drama. So far, I find the series refreshing, and although it goes up against CBS’s Harpers Island on Thursdays, I think it will do well.

Notably, Nimoy will also be reprising his role as Mr. Spock in the new J.J. Abrams directed Star Trek feature film. Abrams is also the co-creator of Fringe. Click the link to see the feature trailer.

Even if I didn’t love Fringe, seeing Leonard Nimoy on the show is a huge treat in itself. Having Nimoy has definitely raised the cool factor for Fringe, and I’m certain many fans will be checking out the finale. Word is that Nimoy will appear on this season finale, and later return for another episode in the Fall.

Fringe airs on Tuesdays at 9:00 PM on Fox, and Star Trek (2009) is slated to premiere worldwide on May 8 (in 28 days).
