More On Leonard Nimoy’s Role

In the latest Fringe news, a bit more has been revealed about Leonard Nimoy’s role on the series. We already know he’s to portray the mysterious former scientist William Bell in the finale. We knew Nimoy is be in more than one episode.  At the April 23 Paley Festival panel interview, J.J. Abrams revealed Anna Torv is the only person that will share a scene with him on the May 12 finale, and it was reiterated that Nimoy will be back for future episodes. Yay! Peter Bishop’s Big Secret

Word is we’ll get a resolve on Peter Bishop’s (Joshua Jackson) big secret, as there is something of a tease about there being more than one Peter over at io9. Apparently, we’ll also find out whether Nina Bell is good or bad, and what goes on with Olivia’s powers in the season finale.

Astrid’s On Either Side of The Pattern?

Finally, Jasika Nicole, (aka lab assistant Astrid on Fringe) says Astrid might have a dark side, or at least dark intentions, and that we don’t quite know what her character’s impact will be on the series. In an exclusive interview, she reveals some funny and amazing insight into her character and the show. Some of her secrets include her favorite scene (worms busting out of a guy’s chest in the animal right’s activist episode called Unleashed), and her dishing on whether the very serious Lance Reddick is a “gigglebox”.

Anna Torv, John Noble and Joshua Jackson on the move to find a creature on Fringe’s “Unleashed”

For now, we’ll continue to get more on Olivia (Anna Torv) and her mysterious background.

I’m pretty excited about this “Peter Bishop” development. It’s unclear how much contact Peter had with his father Walter Bishop (John Noble) so many years ago before Dad went off to the loony bin.

An obvious tack would be that dad somehow made his own son some sort of a lab rat. I think it would be an interesting storyline to pursue (or continue based on a previous episode). What’s even more interesting is the fact there’s no telling what you can pick up just by being around Walter and his crazy lab.

Thoughts On Fringe’s Episode “Unleashed”

If you saw the latest episode of Fringe called Unleashed, you noticed that it’s probably dangerous to eat anything in the lab, even something as innocuous looking as an *omelette. It’s also better to continue to tell children that “monsters aren’t real” as Olivia learns, even though they do in fact exists in the world of Fringe. 

This time, a group of animal activists decide to break in and release some animals that are caged inside a warehouse. Unfortunately, they released something quite unnatural…a man-made monster! In this episode, Charlie (Kirk Acevedo) is injured by the creature, and what an injury it is…

I’m especially liking the way Olivia Dunham seemed a bit annoyed by the fact that Peter Bishop called late at night to talk to her sister, and not her. What’s the matter Olivia? Didn’t you learn from your last foray into fratting that having your partner as your boyfriend is just not that healthy? I see this as either making her see Peter in a new light, or maybe it will cause her to take a different look at her own life. I suspect Olivia has had her turn at love on Fringe though, but you never know…there’s always a cliffhanger, and next season…

Massive Dynamic even has its own corporate web site.  Will we finally get to “meet” William Bell, Walter Bishop’s old lab partner, and will Nina Sharp, Bell’s right hand, finally show her true hand? In any case, let’s have a look at the Tuesday April 7 new episode, and see what falls into place.

Anna Torv, who portrays FBI Agent Olivia Dunham has revealed some news about the final episodes of Fringe’s season one.

The best part is the show creators are working hard to keep the series from becoming too complicated (a la Lost). That means, if you miss an episode, you won’t be in the dark.

We’ll also get more info on The Observers, Olivia’s abilities and some key observations of her past. I’m looking forward to anything new about our favorite scientist, Walter Bishop. The image is Anna Torv as Olivia Dunham from a new episode called “Bad Dreams” which airs on April 21. Watch Fringe on Tuesdays at 9:00 PM ET on Fox.

Many fans are happy to have the series back as it was seemingly preempted (hiatus) by American Idol…(Curses…lol). Yeah for Fringe!

I’m impressed with how well they were able to keep this wedding on the down low, but then again, being part of a J.J. Abrams project is probably the best training you can get for doing covert operations. If anyone remembers all the mystery surrounding the production of Lost, and even his scary monster movie, Cloverfield, you know exactly what I mean.

Anna graduated from the National Institute of Dramatic Art, Australia’s most prestigious acting college. Mark is a Gulf War Army veteran who majored in Math and Engineering at West Point before he began his acting career.

According to The Dish Rag, all we know is the two shared the news with the Fringe cast/crew last month. In case you were wondering, there is a huge spoiler related to Mark Valley’s character, John Scott, and perhaps a resolve on why Olivia has been having what seems to be hallucinations of Scott this season.

I’ll let you watch tonight’s episode to find out (9:00 PM on FOX). Congratulations to the newlyweds.

Homeland Security USA – 8:00 PM ABC (reality series)

Homeland Security USA is a reality series that chronicles the agency that defends threats to the U.S. Much of the focus is on the Internet, mail centers, border patrols and airports.

Tonight’s episode is called These Are Human Skulls So They Had to Belong to Somebody, and it features a strange X-ray of a package from China that arrives at the airport, and a couple in Detroit heading to Dubai with a large amount of money. They seem to have an assortment of explanations. I wonder if they’ll  use the old ” oh it’s not my money…” excuse.

NCIS – 8:00 PM CBS

NCIS has been described as a spin-off the series, JAG. It follows the criminal investigations of Navy and Marine personnel that are handled by their own, the NCIS.

On Agent Afloat, the NCIS crew investigate a mysterious suicide aboard an aircraft carrier, and it seems to lead to a bigger crime.

The Mentalist – 9:00 PM CBS

Simon Baker portrays the “psychic” who is now an investigator for the CBI (California Bureau of Investigation), and uses powerful skills of observation to solve crimes.

On this episode,called Flame Red, three National Guard vets are murdered, and Jane sets out to prove that one vet who survived is the killer.

 Fringe – 9:00 PM  FOX (New Episode)

Of course, I’ve saved the best for last, and yes, I’d definitely watch this FBI drama with sci-fi elements, and record The Mentalist for later. 

Tonight’s Fringe is a new episode called The Transformation, which deals with Peter and Olivia going undercover to investigate a new airborne disaster. Also we find out what is going on with the mystery surrounding John Scott.

This trend-setting series, in the tradition of The X-Files, has gained a loyal fan base and some pretty good ratings. According to Reilly, it has developed a “cult following”. Fringe returns on Tuesday, January 20 at 9:00 PM, with new episodes, and its first called Bound.

When Fringe debuted in September, it averaged 9 million viewers during its 90 minute premiere. Some attributed the less than stellar ratings to the fact that the debut episode was leaked on the Internet via BitTorrent. Also, because Fox began its new season early, its been said viewers were still waiting for regular Fall shows to begin at their normal time. (Honestly, after the WGA strike, I don’t know what’s normal anymore.) 

Since then, the series has increased in viewership, and in October 2008, it made it to the first place slot in the 18-49 demographic. Although critics still jab at this show as being another version of The X-Files (and even Lost?), it has been very well-received.

Notably, many fans are quite taken with actor John Noble’s portrayal of Dr. Walter Bishop, the former “fringe scientist”, and ex-mental patient, who aides FBI agent Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv) in her quest to solve unexplained phenomena and the mysteries of “the pattern”. I will continue to watch the show, if for nothing else than the way it beautifully weaves the mysterious with the humanity in a world of extreme possibilities.

Fringe

Anna’s hunky co-star Joshua Jackson made the list of People’s Sexiest Men Alive (No. 14 on the list). Others on the list include Hugh Jackman, Daniel Craig, Robert Pattinson and David Beckham. I’d say he’s in pretty good company. You can see a great scan of Joshua from the People article here, and he looks amazingly GQ in this one.

Former CSI star Gary Dourdan made No. 12 on the list of People Magazine’s TV’s Sexiest Guys list.

It seems Ashlee Simpson and Pete Wentz’s new baby name (Bronx Mowgli Wentz) has been reminding us of some other unique celebrity baby name choices, as Numb3rs’ star Rob Morrow’s name has been popping up all week because he and wife named their daughter Tu (As in Tu Morrow). I think their name choice is actually pretty clever, compared to some.

He portrays FBI agent Charlie Francis on Fox’s Fringe. In this video, he talks about his character, and how he prepared for his role on the show. Unfortunately, his interview is at the very end (at 5:13) but it’s fun to get a sense of how all the actors are working together.

His character is that of friend and fellow FBI agent to Agent Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv). Notably, he was one of the first actors cast to the show, and it’s no surprise, as he’s known for good solid acting. He was nominated for the Cable Ace and Drama Desk awards, and received the Alma award for his role in the feature film, The Thin Red Line.

This fit FBI dramas star also portrayed Nicky Cottero on The Black Donnellys, and District Attorney Hector Salazar on Law & Order: Trial By Jury. He’s also best known for his portrayal of a violent prisoner looking for redemption on the HBO series, Oz from 1997 to 2003.

As noted this is nothing new, except what was once just a few foreign actors has now become a boatload. The reason behind the shift is economics, but as viewers, we just simply enjoy our stars.

So let’s see who some of these FBI drama stars are, what we like about them, and who is our favorite?

Poppy Montgomery of Without A Trace – As Agent Samantha Spade, she adds to the team’s success with her complex approach to investigation. She was born in Sydney, Australia, and lives in Los Angeles.

Marianne Jean-Baptiste of Without A Trace – She has a special insight into victim’s families. She was born in London, and lives in London and Los Angeles.

Rufus Sewell of Eleventh Hour – Portrays a biophysicist and special science advisor to the government. He was born in Twickenham, England, and was raised in Wales and London, where he currently resides.

Simon Baker of The Mentalist - He portrays Patrick Jane, a man who uses his sharp skills of observation to solve crimes for the California Bureau of Investigation (CBI).

Most of the cast of Flashpoint – This series is inspired by Toronto’s Emergency Task Force, and portrays the stories of a highly-skilled tactical team. Stars include Enrico Colantoni, Hugh Dillon, and Amy Jo Johnson.

Agent Olivia Dunham (Anna Torv) and Peter Bishop (Joshua Jackson) are featured on the front cover. It’s compelling to see two of Fox’s most beautiful stars, and to have this amazing series featured on the cover.

As you may know, Fringe is all about an FBI agent, Dunham, a research scientist, Walter Bishop, (John Noble) and his son, Peter (Joshua Jackson). Their union is at the center of what is termed “fringe science”  and they solve unusual cases each week.

Created by J.J. Abrams, this series has garnered an amazing number of viewers and popularity. More episodes of what was once dubbed a “risky series” was ordered on October 1, making the show a full 22 episode season.

Congratulations to the series for making the TV Guide cover this week. What I’d like to see next is a cover that features more of the beautiful people (John Noble, Lance Reddick and Jasika Nicole). Now, a cover with those three would be completely awesome, TV Guide! (Perhaps I have seen this in a dream?)
