How ironic is this? On the same weekend that the Ron Howard and Dan Brown film Angel and Demons debuts, Numb3rs’ exciting season finale, called Angels and Devils airs! In this exciting season 5 finale episode, Amita (Navi Rawat) is kidnapped, and Charlie (David Krumholtz) puts aside his feelings to help find her. It seems that in the eyes of the Eppes brothers, there’s no such thing as being too close to a case. Check out the the short video preview above and catch up on the review of the Season finale.

Numb3rs creators pulled out all the stops on this one. James Callis of Battlestar Galactica fame (Dr. Gaius Baltar) stars as a sociopath named Mason Duryea, the prime suspect in this case. Sarah Drew of CW’s Everwood fame stars as Piper, a devoted follower of Duryea. (Remember she portrayed that shy young thing named Hannah Rogers in Everwood?) Lou Diamond Philips returns as Agent Ian Edgerton.

I’ve decided that British actor James Callis is a master of voices. He passes as Southerner quite nicely (Ok maybe not a Southerner from Georgia but he does well all the same. Maybe a Missouri southerner?).

Agent Edgerton does that thing again in which he manages to appear out of nowhere, and rather quietly. Guess that’s a good skill to have if you are master sniper. I’m ready to call him ninja at this point.

Duryea is a genius cult-figure, charismatic in the all the right ways to runaways and wayward girls. Those who are held by his sway become a part of his girl gang…called The Tribe, and for them, kidnapping Amita was no coincidence.

While under duress, Amita finds a unique way to contact Charlie and the team (the only way a genius girl math nerd could…). Overall, the episode was awesome, but it felt a little understated for a season finale(?)

In the end, Nikki and Edgerton end up going out after work, and Alan does a great job of summing up the season. Don mentions some spiritual elements he experienced, and Charlie ends up asking someone a very important question. By the way, if you missed this season finale, you can check it out online for free over at CBS video.

The latest birthdays of our favorite FBI drama stars include Numb3rs star David Krumholtz (May 15), and Without A Trace star, Eric Close for May 24.
Notably, David’s Krumholtz’s family and friends can not only celebrate his birthday tomorrow, but they can do it in style by watching the season finale episode of Numb3rs which airs Friday May 15, at 9:00 PM on CBS.
I’m particularly fond of his role as Charlie Eppes, but Krumholtz is also know for roles in Harold and Kumar Escape From Guantanamo Bay, Demption, and Walk Hard: The Dewey Cox Story.

Eric Close portrays Agent Martin Fitzgerald on Without A Trace. Close directed the latest episode of WAT, called True, which aired this week on Tuesday May 12.

Although I’m a fan of Close as an FBI agent, I admit that his roles in two sci-fi series were also my favorites (Taken and Dark Skies).

As Agent Fitzgerald on Without A Trace, he’s been through a lot. From a questionable shooting incident in Season 2, to an office romance, an estranged relationship with his dad, and a painkiller addiction in Season 4, Fitzgerald seems to have done it all.

Happy Birthday, guys!

Charlie’s Graphics Are a Budget Killer
Ellen over at Philly.com says the graphics that pop up whenever Charlie Eppes (David Krumholtz) begins to explain a concept about a case is probably adding to the budget. This is some of the latest buzz about the show around town.

Charlie’s Graphics Are a Budget Killer

Ellen over at Philly.com says the graphics that pop up whenever Charlie Eppes (David Krumholtz) begins to explain a concept about a case is probably adding to the budget. I wondered that same thing, and overall I sometimes find the “presentations” a little distracting. That is really a good catch though. Just in case some bigwig decides to try to mess with one of our favorite FBI dramas, we’ve got at least two votes on mowing down Charlie’s graphics.

Numb3rs Has Religion?

It’s been noted at Variety that some slight religious topics have snuck into this season’s Numb3rs. Ken Sanzel, the executive producer of the show says that CBS was more open this time around to letting the showrunners “experiment” with Don (Rob Morrow…pictured above), and he cites some examples.

One of my favorite examples is from the last season, when Don is left feeling a bit uneasy after he realizes the FBI will not punish him for breaking the rules in getting the job done. Some of the others include Don going to a temple, and when he has to take a prisoner to a synagogue. I think allowing Don to touch on his faith adds more layers to the show, and am thankful that there’s a healthy balance.

Numb3rs 100th Episode – Disturbed

The biggest buzz is the “100th Episode” (Disturbed) aired last night, and was it a treat because it had a lot of goodies that serious fans of the show could appreciate (some of Charlie’s math theorems from when he first began helping to solve cases). Not only that, Charlie had to stop worrying about almost getting his brother killed from last week, and focus all of his skills on finding a serial killer who blends in much too well.

In this episode called The Fifth Man, the team is under a lot of of pressure to catch the bad guys. One highlight is that Granger (Dylan Bruno) and Sinclair (Alimi Ballard) get into an intense discussion after Sinclair stops Granger from going a little too far with a suspect in the interrogation room.
Friday nights has been an amazing night for crime drama on CBS. Flashpoint and Numb3rs air back-to-back. Although we’ve had a few Numb3rs repeats here and there in the past few weeks, things are getting tense as Charlie makes a critical error in his math calculations, and it puts Don in serious harm’s way in Friday’s upcoming episode of Numb3rs, called The Fifth Man.

The team investigates related occurrences of home invasions, and Charlie is called in to use math calculations to help profile the suspects. Don is severely injured and his life is in danger due to a problem with Charlie’s miscalculation.

Michael Gaston (Fringe, Jericho) and Alan Blumenfeld (Heroes) guest star on this episode which airs on Friday, April 24, at 9:00 PM ET on CBS.

Check out where some of our favorite FBI drama stars are when they’re not on set! Criminal Minds star Matthew Gray Gubler gets under the microscope – for sleep’s sake. Shemar Moore and Thomas Gibson share their favorite vacation spots, Navi Rawat has a guide for tripping through Miami, and Eric Close and wife head to South America for what else?

Matthew Gray Gubler took part in what has been called the Sleeping Beauty boot camp, but is actually a promotion sponsored jointly by the Ritz Carlton Berlin and the sleep lab at Berlin’s Charite University.

Judging from the pictures, and the “rigorous” ordeal they put Gubler through, it all leaves me wanting special comfy socks, eyeshades, wine tasting, and even the 30 minute workout that President Barack Obama recently had at that same hotel’s spa. See all the pictures here.

Shemar Moore isn’t shy about confessing his love for Montreal and Toronto. He says to talk to him in a few years about Honolulu, Bora Bora, and the South of France. Sounds like he’s ready for some new adventures.

Thomas Gibson says that Italy is the place to be, and reveals he was so impressed by a little town called Ravello, in Florence, that he’s invested in a real pizza oven, and soon “pizza making” classes for his house in L.A.

Finally, Numb3rs star Navi Rawat gives the what-what on where to do (stuff), dine, and shop in the hot city of Miami.
A birthday shout out is in order for Numb3rs star Judd Hirsch (March 15). He portrays Alan Eppes, dad to two crime solving brothers, Don and Charlie Eppes on the CBS series. Hirsch is also best know for his performance in the film, Ordinary People, and his years on the TV series, Taxi. This award winning actor also received a SAG award for his performance in the film, A Beautiful Mind which stars Russell Crowe and Jennifer Connelly.

Happy belated birthdays to Criminal Minds’ stars Matthew Gray Gubler (March 9) and Paget Brewster (March 10). Gubler has been with the series since its inception in 2005. He recently completed a role in the film, Pornstar, has a role in the animated film Rapunzel, and is doing the voice of Simon in the latest animated Alvin and The Chipmunks installment. One thing you can say about Gubler…he is versatile when it comes to acting. Gubler also has a role in a romantic comedy called (500) Days of Summer.

Paget Brewster is no stranger to animation either (American Dad! as Thundercat, Harvey Birdman, Attorney at Law, as Birdgirl). She also appeared in the FOX comedy series, Andy Richter Controls The Universe from 2002-2003 before she came to Criminal Minds as Special Agent Emily Prentiss in 2006.

For some people, it’s all about the shoes. If you’re a person that love shoes, this episode of Numb3rs may be quite refreshing. Nice song at the beginning, and it matches what appears to be a heist taking place. Here’s the short video preview of the episode.

The music is reminiscent of a spy movie. Two robbers stun the security guard and take off with something extremely valuable. Don, David and Nikki respond to the robbery which takes place at the home of Foreign Consul Nespola.

Ok, this episode has some hilarity. I’ve somehow missed the whole phenomenon of sneakerheads – people who instead of investing in real estate or other seemingly more worthy interests, invest in shoes. Consul Nespola collects shoes (he’s a sneakerhead). He paid $250,000 large for the pair of shoes that were taken by the robbers.

There is a nice assortment of guest stars. Grammy Award winner (female rapper and musician turned actor) Eve appeared as La-La Buendia, a sneaker business maven. Bruno Campos (Nip/Tuck, ER) portrays the foreign consul who man-gushes (ask me later…) over sneakers, and collects them to the nth degree. Patrick Bauchau (Panic Room, The Cell) portrays the mysterious French guy (Jean Stephanois) who would never sully his reputation, to steal something as trite as a pair of “sneakers”.

Charlie uses voice clips from YouTube and feeds them to a computer so it spits out different variations and words of the consul’s voice, so that Don and the team can gain access to a high tech voice activated safe (*cough* shoe closet). Very smooth move, Charlie. Let’s hope anyone in real life who has a voice-activated safe doesn’t leave their “voice trails” all over the Internets the way this guy does.

Liz Warner is given a promotion..Supervisor of Organized Crime in Denver, however, she does a lot of “mulling” throughout the hour, and tells the rest of the team at the end that she can’t leave her “family” Aww!

Favorite Quotes:

“The other collectors can kiss my Converse…” – Consul Nespola

“You want a discount yo? I can hook it up.”- Primer Bracelet salesman aka Beastie Boy(?)
