Kirsten, who portrays the computer genius Penelope Garcia on the series, says she and Melanie are aiming for a springtime southern wedding in Texas.

Melanie Goldstein is an assistant editor on the Fox series, 24, and her parents have a great place for a wedding according to Vangsness.

In this image from July, Kirsten is arriving at the 2008 TCA Summer Press Tour party held at Bouelvard3 in Beverly Hills. You can see the great image of Kirsten and Melanie they took for the recent interview.

It’s noted that Kirsten revealed their big news to fellow Criminal Minds cast members last month, and they couldn’t be happier for her. She says that “Everybody squealed and got very excited…,”. Kirsten notes that both Paget Brewster and Shemar Moore are already being extremely helpful, and she says that being a fiancee is “so much fun”. Congratulations to the happy couple!

When asked how much she and her character are alike, Kirsten says that she and Penelope Garcia “are like sisters”.

She also reveals how the chemistry between she and actor Shemar Moore developed, and it involves a cute story about her and Shemar being in a sexual harassment meeting. Moore portrays FBI Agent Derek Morgan.

One of the best parts of the interview is when she hints at an awesome new guest star for the show. This season alone, there are episodes with Luke Perry and Wil Wheaton. Sadly Kirsten could not reveal the name, so if you like surprises, this will be a good one.

Kirsten also reveals that Penelope Garcia will be on the road more with the team, so we can expect to see her still in action with her computer, in all her geek glory!

According to the latest press release, the show’s opener debuted, and exceeded last year’s season opener ratings. They rated No. 1 in households on Wednesday, September 24.

From 9:15-10:15 PM, CRIMINAL MINDS (P) won its time slot in households (10.5/16), viewers (17.01m), adults 25-54 (6.3/14) and adults 18-49 (4.7/12).  Compared to CRIMINAL MINDS season premiere last year (on 9/26/07), CBS was up +28% in households (from 8.2/13), +40% in adults 25-54 (from 4.5/11), +34% in adults 18-49 (from 3.5/09) and added +4.30m viewers (from 12.71m, +34%).

In this episode, someone died as promised, and there was truly mayhem in that someone else almost died. Interestingly,  the writers still delivered with a scary but sweet moment for Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness).This episode left us with some questions…about Morgan (Shemar Moore), Prentiss (Paget Brewster), and Hotchner (Thomas Gibson). Here’s hoping next week fills in for us.

Besides Dr. Reid’s witty observations, and Agent Morgan’s biceps, there’s another signature trademark of CBS’s Criminal Minds, and that is the saucy banter between Garcia (Kirsten Vangsness) and Agent Derek Morgan (Shemar Moore). What’s really interesting is that Garcia is this sweet to everyone!

As fan’s we’re not sure why we love it so much. It could be the idea of Garcia being so chummy is a compelling and ideal friendship. It may be that some fans would love to see a “love interest” between these two. It may just be that we think it’s so sweet. In any case, lets wish Kirsten Vangsness a Happy Birthday (July 7) this week by watching this CBS “Tribute to Garcia” Video.

Some of the other traits we love in our BAU team? Agent Hotchner’s (Thomas Gibson) serious demeanor, Garcia’s reaction to some of the horrible things she must look into when helping to solve a case, and Morgan’s tough guy exterior.
